Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) Honor Society is the California Community Colleges honor society founded in 1925. Our Sigma Pi Chapter at Golden West College is the longest continuous club on campus and started in 1969 and has been the Golden West College Club of the Year for the last two years. AGS Honor Society was created to foster, promote, maintain and recognize academic excellence at the community college level. Active members of AGS Sigma Pi do more than just get good grades. They are often some of the most active and involved students on campus because AGS promotes scholarship combined with service to the campus and the local communities. Each month we do a service project. Some examples are beach clean ups, going to homeless shelters, assisting with Science Showtime and decorating Rose Parade Floats. In addition to service AGS members enjoy numerous social and leadership events throughout the year. Recognition for being in AGS Sigma Pi Chapter is through Academic Recognition at Graduation, scholarships and if a Permanent Member GWC Transcript Recognition and State Recognition.
How is AGS different from other clubs?
To be a member students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and have completed at least 12 graded units of college courses. Members must pay chapter dues and maintain their GPA each semester to be a member in good standing.
