Associated Students of Golden West College
As a student at Golden West College, you are also a member of the Associated Students of Golden West College, known as ASGWC. [ASGWC Constitution]
The Student Council is an elected body responsible for managing the affairs of the ASGWC. The elected positions consist of a President, Vice President, Club Consultant, Finance Commissioner, Public Relations Officer, Student Advocate, and Activities Commissioner. The goal of the Student Council is to give a voice to all Golden West College students, enabling them to become an integral part of the college community. The Student Council’s major responsibilities include appointing officers and students to campus wide committees; participating in shared governance in the development of Golden West College policies and annual budget; adopting and overseeing use of the annual ASGWC budget; allocating funds for new programs and projects; and providing and administering a program of activities and services for students.
In addition to the Student Council there is a Student Senate consisting of five committees, expanding the opportunity for more students to become involved. The five committees are Broadcasting, Club West Entertainment [Activities], Finance, Publicity and Student Interest. Whatever your interests, there is a job for you in student government, within either Student Council or Student Senate. As representatives of the students, all members put their leadership skills to work.
Any interested student with a 2.0 GPA or above and enrolled in at least five units is eligible to join Student Senate, and if you have a 2.5 GPA or above you can be elected or appointed for a Student Council position.
