Drafters: Factors that may influence opportunities are the use of high technology and defense-related employment. The growing use of computer assisted design (CAD) techniques for routine tasks may decrease demand for Drafters. Job opportunities are best for those with CAD skills. Opportunities for beginners are limited and competition is keen in areas with local training programs. Employers prefer those with an AA degree. People with college training (A.A. degree) in drafting supplemented with some experience will have a better chance of finding a job. Demand is strongest for people with technical skills in mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and environmental design.
