WHAT IS CRIMINAL JUSTICE?
The criminal justice system is comprised of three interrelated components: law enforcement, judiciary, and corrections. Criminal justice is the study of the substantive and procedural laws affecting these components, and the study of the goals associated with each of these components. These goals include crime prevention, protection of and service to the community, the maintenance of public order, apprehension of offenders, guaranteeing due process of law during the prosecution and defense stages of a criminal trial, and the supervision and rehabilitation of those people who are convicted of a criminal offense.
