Courses within this program are for currently employed law enforcement personnel. Some of the courses in this program are P.O.S.T. mandated in-service Advanced Officer Training (AOT), or Continued Professional Training (CPT) and may be assignment specific or for general career growth.

Students in this program have the opportunity to:

Collectively the courses in these three programs validate the mission of the college. They not only provide educational opportunities for new college students but pre-service and in-service students alike. Meeting student needs for career placement, development and advancement.

In these programs the department performs a valuable service for the student as well as the community. Over the years, the Criminal Justice Training Center has maintained a reputation for excellence in instruction and in meeting the needs of its students as well as the Law Enforcement community, which make up its constituency.

GWC schedules AOT/CPT as per agencies’ needs. All the AOT/CPT classes are presented through Contract Education. Prices will vary depending on length of class. No college credits are given.

Pre-Academy Physical Fitness
CJ G055 1.5 units 27 hours 6 weeks
Pre-Academy Physical Fitness Course is designed to prepare students for the physical aspects of the police academy course including the POST-mandated physical agility test (99-yard agility run, body drag, six-foot solid wall, six-foot chain link fence & 500-yard run.

Academy – Basic (RBC) (Class #148)
CJ G064 23 units POST certified
Pre-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G054AD (Orientation/Police Academy - see above)
Co-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G065 (Physical Fitness/Police Academy)
This course provides the fundamentals of basic police training in compliance with the minimum standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
The training includes community based policing concepts, techniques, and observation of application. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.
• April 5 - September 19, 2014
• Mon - Fri and some weekends
• 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

CPOA- Leadership Development for Law Enforcement

This course provides leadership principles for career advancement in a law enforcement environment. Pre-requisite: P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate.

Public Safety Dispatcher (911 Operator)
DAY INTENSIVE COURSE (PRE-REQUISITE*)

This course provides specialized training in basic communication functions as they relate to the objectives of a public safety/dispatch office as well as basic emergency/non-emergency law enforcement telecommunications skills.

Reserve Coordinator Course

This course is designed to address contemporary training needs of law enforcement reserve coordinators by providing new techniques for managing reserve peace officer organizations. Specialized Investigators - Basic Course (SIBC)
Contract Education No college credit 15 weeks POST Certified
Basic knowledge and skills in compliance with minimum standards to meet requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) for persons serving as Specialized Investigators in the State of California. Includes both physical and academic standards for successful completion. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.
This class is offered as a Contract Education class and does not carry college credit units. Attendance is by permission only.

Supervisory Course - CIVILIAN Projected to be offered Fall 2014

Supervisor Course - DISPATCH (Pre-requisite)* Projected to be offered Fall 2014
Contract Education No college credit 2 weeks 80 Hours POST Certified
This 80 hour P.O.S.T. certified Supervisor Course (Plan IV) has been specifically developed for the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. The course represents an excellent foundation for supervisors, regardless of length of service. It is presented in a facilitated discussion format which requires the active participation of all students.

SWAT - Special Weapons and Tactics PRE-REQUISITE*)
CJ G 092 4 units 2 weeks 80 Hours POST certified
Concepts, planning, tactical operations, approach/entry/search techniques; use of chemical agents, weapons, rappelling and task-related physical activities.
• February 25 – March 8, 2014
• Tue – Sat

*Pre-requisite: a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate and assignment to an agency’s SWAT unit. There is also a mandatory Physical Fitness test conducted the first day of class.
