The Golden West College Mathematics Department seeks to promote a positive and effective learning environment to maximize opportunities for student success. We are committed to improving the mathematical skills, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills of our students regardless of their diverse background or skill level.

The physical science department offers courses in astronomy, chemistry, geology, physical science and physics as well as associate degrees in chemistry, geology, and physics. Some courses are designed to meet the physical science requirement for non-science majors while the remaining courses meet the science requirements for chemistry, engineering, biology, physics, geology, health profession and other majors. All courses provide a rigorous preparation for students’ future course work and most courses include a hands-on laboratory component.

The departments integrate the use of technology and online resources to offer transfer courses to meet the needs of students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. In addition, we offer courses to satisfy general education requirements as well as lower-division major coursework in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, nursing, business, psychology and other social sciences.

A new Math/Science building, scheduled to be completed in late 2018, will contain an exciting new STEM Center and we look forward to the future and all that it holds for the improvement in the learning of Mathematics and Science.
