Golden West College Award Winners:
Aileen Chu became the first person ever to win three awards: $500 John and Peggy Madden Director’s Award, the highest honor presented; $500 UCI research grant; and a $250 HTCC Student Excellence Scholarship, recognizing outstanding achievements and contributions on campus and in the community.
Chu’s research presentation was on the interpretation of artist Vincent van Gogh’s paintings through a reading of his letters.
Thai Hoang won a $250 HTCC Student Excellence Scholarship.
Sarah Blanchette won a $250 Outstanding Abstract Scholarship. She presented an engaging audience-participation, role-playing exercise of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “letters from the Birmingham jail”.

“We have some amazing students,” said Chuck Whitchurch, coordinator of the Golden West College Honors program.
“These students address significant political and social concerns, and they evoke vigorous responses—while keeping focus on the facts.”
The Golden West College Honors program is in its sixth year. Students from all nationalities and backgrounds are encouraged to become a member of this highly motivated program, which combines the rich blend of academic and social courses designed to develop initiative, intellectual curiosity, and an increased understanding of world views.
