Commencement Speaker
Golden West College is honored to have the Honorable Nancy Pollard as this year’s commencement speaker. She is regarded as a community college success story.
Nancy graduated from Golden West College in 1976. She then transferred to Western State College of Law, where she earned a JD (Juris Doctor of Law degree) in 1980. From 1982-1997, she served as an attorney-at-law.
Nancy returned to the Coast Community College District in 1983 as an elected member of the Board of Trustees. As one of a very few women to serve on the board, she established a respectable reputation for 13 years. While on the board, she was known as a strong advocate for three, important principles: what’s good for students, clean and hospitable campus environments, and fiscal accountability. Then in 1997, she was elected to the Orange County Superior Court bench, where she currently presides over family law cases that deal exclusively with domestic violence issues.
Nancy was a recipient of the Golden West College Alumni Pillar of Achievement Award in 1991a recognition for her achievements in higher education and profession.
