Office of Institutional Research (OIR)
The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) at Golden West College (GWC) helps students be more successful and get more value out of their educational experience by helping students, faculty, staff, managers, and administrators make more informed decisions. This decision-support model requires the use of a variety of data collection techniques including, but not limited to, database extracts, tests, surveys, and interviews. Successful data analysis requires the researcher to be cognizant of the decision to be made, the data source, appropriate statistical techniques, the intended audience, and the available timeline. With these issues in mind, it is the goal of OIR to always produce reports or information tools that are timely, accurate, readable, objective, and useful. It is also the goal of the OIR to continually improve its ability to produce effective information through the utilization of appropriate technology.
Existing processes for which the OIR is responsible for providing information include:
- College assessment, planning and budgeting
- Program review
- Enrollment management
- Facilities utilization
- Curriculum management
- Accreditation
- Faculty/administrator evaluations
- Matriculation
- Identifying and describing the students served by Matriculation
- Ensuring that tests are used in a fair and valid manner
- Measuring the impact of matriculation on students and programs
- Monitoring student performance related to courses and curriculum
