Science Olympiad, a national program, provides a gateway for career opportunities for students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  It provides middle and high school students with opportunities to demonstrate critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity through the use of scientific and engineering practices embedded within STEM-related competitive events.

The Online Registration process is now closed.

The following website contains clarifications for all questions submitted to the state directors of Science Olympiad.  This site includes all of the national FAQ's and clarifications as well as the state and regional ones.

Regional Competition
March 1, 2013

Science Olympiad tournaments are interscholastic academic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events for which students prepare for during the year. The events are balanced among the science disciplines of chemistry, biology, earth science, physics, and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills, and science applications.  The day concludes with a ceremony where individuals and teams are awarded medals, ribbons, and trophies for their achievements. One of the goals of Science Olympiad is to elevate science education and learning to a level of enthusiasm that is normally reserved only for varsity sports programs.

Please note that enrollment to participate in the Science Olympiad regional contest must be accomplished through the Orange County Department of Education. Registration on this website is only for schools that have already registered and paid their fees.

This year, high school teams will come to Golden West College, and middle school teams to Santa Ana College.

We ask that participating schools register on this website between Monday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 20, 2013.

Your registration must be complete by February 20, at 4 PM.  Please make all editing changes by this time as well.  Changes after this date will be accepted only for reason of illness or other unanticipated circumstances.

Please check the Special Announcements link on this page now and as the contest date approaches. We hope your find the information there useful. Any changes in schedule or rooms will be announced there as they occur, as well as on the day of the event.

If you have questions about either site, please contact the Orange County Department of Education, at spradyanata@ocde.us.

The director of Science Olympiad at Golden West College is Dr. Carol Grimes, Professor of Chemistry Emerita. The director at Santa Ana College is Dr. Kathleen Takahashi.
