Collection of Kindness

Student Life and Leadership

Fall 2017 Collection of Kindness

The Collection of Kindness is tradition of giving sponsored by the Associated Students of Golden West College. The concept is simple – if each person performs one simple act of kindness each month and these efforts are coordinated to serve a larger purpose, our campus can have an incredible impact as a whole.

Each month during the academic year, the Office of Student Life & Leadership collects donation items as listed below. As an incentive for student clubs & organizations to participate, ICC offers stipends each month for 1st Place ($60), 2nd Place ($40), and 3rd ($20) Place.

Donations may be dropped off anytime during Student Life & Leadership operating hours (Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm excluding days the campus is closed). Questions? Contact Therese Grande, Student Life & Leadership Coordinator and Inter-Club Council advisor (, 714-892-7711, x. 55199)

September – Non-perishable dried goods and canned food items such as pasta, rice, cereal, dried beans, vegetables, meats, and fruits.  Donations will be used to stock and supply food pantries for students on the GWC campus.

October – Unopened travel-sized products including shampoo and conditioner, hand soap, face and body wash, shaving supplies, oral hygiene products, laundry detergent, and dish soap. Donations will be given to both campus and local organizations.

November – Toys for our EOPS/CARE students on campus. Toys should be new and unwrapped so that they can be distributed based on age group. Suggestions include board games, action figures and dolls, electronic games, sporting goods, books, and arts/crafts activities.

December – New and gently used blankets, jackets, coats, scarves, hats, gloves, and mittens for the winter.  All sizes (children and adults) are welcome. Gently used items should be clean and free of holes/damage. Donations will be given to a local shelter.
