Library Computers
The GWC Library has computers available on the second floor. In addition, all of the group study rooms have computers and monitors equipped for instructional purposes. All of the computers in the main reference area of the library and in the group study rooms offer Internet access, word processing, & printing capabilities. In addition, six computers are reserved for book and database searches only.

Library Computer Policies
The Golden West College Library maintains a number of electronic research tools, including the online library catalog, electronic databases, and Internet workstations, all in the support of the educational mission of Golden West College. The Library reserves the right to limit access to any and all computerized information resources. We also reserve the right to revise the terms under which these resources may be used in the course of meeting the educational needs of Golden West College students, faculty, staff, and community. The GWC Library, moreover, follows the District's Computer and Electronic Resources Systems Acceptable Use Policy.
"The Board recognizes that computers and networks can provide access to resources on and off campus, as well as the ability to communicate with other users worldwide. Such open access is a privilege and requires that individual users act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of other users, respect the integrity of the systems and related physical resources and observe all relevant law, regulations and contractual obligations. For District employees, the intended uses of the District Network are those which are reasonable and necessary for the pursuit of job duties; for students, the intended uses are those which are reasonable and necessary for the pursuit of instructional activities" (Accessed 9/13/11).

I need help with operating the computer. Can you explain it to me?

I saved my work on the computer yesterday. Is it still there?

What kind of use is appropriate for GWC library computers?
The computers are intended for research, accessing MyGWC, word processing, and for Blackboard. If it is very crowded and other students are waiting in line to use a computer, you may be asked to log off if you are playing video games or using social networking sites, so that other students can use the computer for research and or educational purposes.

Anyone who is a registered student at Golden West College may access the network.

Where do I pick up my printouts?
At the self-service Go Print station on the 2nd floor of the library.

I need help with operating the computer. Can you explain everything to me?
We can help you in limited ways, but we do have other responsibilities. If you never have used Microsoft Office or the Internet, we suggest taking an introductory course that will introduce you to these skills.

Make sure you are registered for the semester, and that you typed your user name & password correctly.

I left my disk, CD, or USB drive in the library, have you seen it?
Go to the Public Services Desk and ask for the lost and found. It might be there.

I saved my work on the Desktop yesterday. Is it still there?
No. When the computers are turned off, everything on the hard drive is erased. Please save work on your H:drive.

Is there a time limit for these computers?
First come first served basis.

I need to find a book in the library. How do I do this?
Two ways. You can visit the Information Desk to speak with a Reference Librarian. You can also conduct a search using one of the four computers near the entrance of the library, or the computer on the third floor.

Can I use a my USB drive to save my paper?
Yes. The USB drive ports are located on the left side of the monitor or the front of the tower.

There is a sign on a computer that states "Out of Order."
If you see an out of order sign, please do not use this computer.

- All the computers are being used. Is there a computer available for me to print my documents from my flash drive?
Yes, the library has a Quick Print Station available at the Public Services desk. It is reserved for quick print jobs less than five minutes. No Internet is available.
