Peace Pole Information

History #1: https://www.worldpeace.org/history/

The universal message and prayer for world peace, May Peace Prevail On Earth, was authored in 1955 by the late Masahisa Goi of Japan. In a moment of great inspiration and deep prayer, Mr. Goi awakened to the need to spread this Message in the hearts of the global community for the attainment of inner and outer peace.

The first seeds were planted in Ishikawa, Japan where a small gathering of peace workers gathered around Mr. Goi to listen to his philosophy and visions for a better world.

Mr. Goi encouraged creative ways in order to carry the message to public view. In 1976, the idea of placing the Peace Message and Prayer on poles began to gain popularity.

The first Peace Poles outside of Japan began to appear in towns and cities around the world in the early 1980’s. By 1986, The Peace Pole Project was established in the United States followed by Peace Pole activities in Europe and throughout the world. To date there are over 100,000 thousand Peace Poles planted worldwide.

History #2: https://peacepoles.com/about/

The Peace Pole Project was started in Japan by Masahisa Goi (1916 1980), who dedicated his life to spreading the message, May Peace Prevail on Earth. Mr. Goi was greatly affected by the destruction caused by World War II and the atomic bombs which fell on the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. His desire to assist in the creation of world peace was answered when in 1955, the Peace Message, May Peace Prevail On Earth, came to him in a moment of great inspiration and deep prayer.

After Mr. Goi authored the Universal Peace Message in 1955, a great number of people gathered in support of his vision and activities to spread the Peace Message were promoted throughout Japan. Soon after, Peace Poles inscribed with the Peace Message began to appear in various locations across Japan initiating the start of The Peace Pole Project.

The Peace Pole Project was first introduced to the United States with the opening of The World Peace Prayer Society offices in San Francisco and New York in 1986, The International Year of Peace.

Peace Poles are now the most recognized international peace symbol and monument the world over with more than 200,000 Peace Poles standing in almost every country throughout the world.

Description:

When you plant a Peace Pole in your community, you are linking with people all over the world who have planted Peace Poles in the same spirit of peace. Additionally, it serves as a reminder that others from all around the planet share our same vision for the world, that vision being a world of peace. It is our honor and privilege to continue the spirit of peace by making one out of more than 200,000 Peace Poles home here at Golden West College!
