Recruits Standing AttentionCourses within this program are for currently employed law enforcement personnel. Some of the courses in this program are P.O.S.T. mandated in-service Advanced Officer Training (AOT), or Continued Professional Training (CPT) and may be assignment specific or for general career growth.

Students in this program have the opportunity to:

  • Satisfy P.O.S.T. skills and knowledge mandates.
  • Meet P.O.S.T. mandated training requirements relative to certain assignments or promotions.
  • Prepare for specialized job assignments.
  • Prepare for promotional opportunities.

Collectively the courses in these three programs validate the mission of the college. They not only provide educational opportunities for new college students but pre-service and in-service students alike. Meeting student needs for career placement, development, and advancement.

In these programs the department performs a valuable service for the student as well as the community. Over the years, the Criminal Justice Training Center has maintained a reputation for excellence in instruction and in meeting the needs of its students as well as the Law Enforcement community, which make up its constituency.

CJ G054 Police Academy, Regular Basic Course, Orientation   2 units

You can register online for this class!

This course is designed to familiarize the student with the police academy training program. Pass/no pass only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

– Meets various evenings during the week and on Saturdays.

CJ G064 Police Academy – Regular Basic Course  23 units    POST certified

Monday – Friday and some weekends

Must also enroll in Police Acad Hlth/Fitness, CJ 065.

This course provides the fundamentals of basic police training in compliance with the minimum standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The training includes community based policing concepts, techniques, and observation of application. Forty hours per week for 24 weeks. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

Pre-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G054 (Orientation/Police Academy) 23 units

Co-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G065 (Physical Fitness/Police Academy) 2 units

CJ G080 CTO-Communications Training Officer  2 units 40 hrs. POST certified

This course provides state mandated instruction in basic training skills applicable to the Communications Training Officer in a law enforcement agency or equivalent.

CJ G095 CPOA- Leadership Development for Law Enforcement   3 units 80 hrs

Fall Session:               Mandatory Orientation:           August 30, 2017                      9 am – 10 am

Class meetings are on Wednesday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Dates: 9/6; 9/20; 10/4; 10/18; 11/1; 11/15 – 2017

Orientation is mandatory for participants and mentors. Participants must attend ALL meetings.

This course provides leadership principles for career advancement in a law enforcement environment.                   Pre-requisite: P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate.

DISPATCH SUPERVISOR COURSE      Contract Education  No college credit

Pre-requisite:

Participants must be currently employed as a Dispatch Supervisor in a professional dispatch environment

Cost: $395

Dates: 11/27 – 12/8, 2017       8 am – 5 pm    80 Hours         POST Certified

This 80 ­hour P.O.S.T. certified Supervisor Course (Plan IV) has been specifically         developed for the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. The course represents an excellent foundation for supervisors, regardless of length of service. It is presented in a facilitated discussion format which requires the active participation of all students.

CJ G172 P.C. 832 – Laws of Arrest 2 units      POST certified

Dates: July 10 – 14, 2017 closed
July 31 – August 4, 2017 closed

September 11 – 15, 2017

Meets: Monday – Friday          40 Hours         8 am – 5 pm   

This course is designed to satisfy the curriculum standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as required by California Penal Code section 832 for Laws of Arrest. Course topics include professional orientation, criminal justice system, community relations, introduction to criminal law, laws of arrest, search and seizure, presentation of evidence, investigative report writing, use of force/baton, preliminary criminal investigation, arrest and control procedures (which will require a physical skills demonstration), crimes against the justice system, and cultural diversity. Pass/no pass only. Transferable to CSU.

CJ G 091 Reserve Coordinator   1  unit    24 hrs.             POST certified

Dates:  December 11-13, 2017

This course is designed to address contemporary training needs of law enforcement reserve coordinators by providing new techniques for managing reserve peace officer organizations. Emphasis on new training standards for designated and non-designated level 1 reserve officers, new trends and legislation concerning reserve officers.

CJ G046 Civilian Supervisory, Law Enforcement 4 units 80 hrs. POST certified

This course provides state mandated, formalized basic supervisory training for any “non-sworn” supervisor in a law enforcement agency or equivalent.

CJ G070 Sergeant Supervisory, Law Enforcement 4 units 80 hrs POST certified

Dates:              October 23 –November 3, 2017         Monday – Friday        8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Fundamentals of police supervision. 80 hour POST certified course. Pass/no pass only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

This course provides advanced training in supervision as it relates to law enforcement or its equivalent. Prerequisite: P.O.S.T. Advanced Certificate.

CJ G090 Specialized Investigators’ Basic Course (SIBC)      POST certified

Basic knowledge and skills in compliance with minimum standards to meet requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) for persons serving as Specialized Investigators in the State of California. Includes both physical and academic standards for successful completion. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.


CJ G092  SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics)     4 units    80 hrs    POST certified

RESTRICTED

PRE-REQUISITE:   a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate and assignment to an agency’s SWAT unit.

There is also a mandatory Physical Fitness test conducted the first day of class.

COST: College Fees

September 19 – 30, 2017       2 weeks          80 Hours        

Concepts, planning, tactical operations, approach/entry/search techniques; use of chemical agents, weapons, rappelling and task-related physical activities.
