September 16 | Employee Mixer Hosted by Somos

SOMOS will be hosting a Chicanx/a/o, Latinx/a/o, Hispanic employee mixer where colleagues can connect, network, and celebrate the rich diversity of Latinx culture. This event provides an opportunity to foster community, share experiences, and build meaningful professional relationships.

Exhibit runs 9/16 - 10/15, GWC Gallery

Golden West College proudly presents SOMOS: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, an art exhibition guest curated by Matthew Ohm, that explores artists connection and celebration of their individual Hispanic heritage. The show features the work of a distinguished group of artists—Diego "Yeyo" Aguirre, Dr. Eileen Jimenez, and Stephanie Mercado.

September 26 | Learn Ballet Folklórico

Join us for an exciting Ballet Folklórico workshop, where participants will learn the vibrant traditional dances of Mexico. This interactive event offers a unique opportunity to explore Latinx culture through movement, music, and storytelling.


October 1 | Cafecito with Foo-Lanito

Hear from Alexis Aleman and Irvin Garcia Real, two trailblazing Latino, first-generation medical students from Foos in Medicine, as they share their unique experiences and challenges in breaking barriers within the medical field. Open to all, this event aims to inspire and empower the next generation of diverse leaders in medicine.

Celebrate National Coming Out Day with a resource fair and special performance by Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, the world's first LGBTQ+ mariachi. 


October 14 | Flower Headband Making Hosted by PUENTE

Join us for a workshop hosted by Puente where you will learn to create traditional floral headpieces and explore their cultural significance in Mexican heritage.

October 17 | UndocAdvocate Training

In this training you will learn "Why Our College’s Campus Culture Matters” as well as different strategies that can be implemented in our classrooms, departments, and the college campus at large to support our students of undocumented and mixed status.
