Golden West College President - Tim McGrath

Tim McGrath, President

Welcome to Golden West College (GWC)!

Since 1966, GWC has served as a gateway to the highest quality education in California. Garnering a reputation of excellence, GWC ranks first among all California Community Colleges in awarding the highest number of degrees and certificates in 2018-2019.

For the past two years, GWC has been named a Champion of Higher Education, by the Campaign for College Opportunity organization, for its excellence in transfers. Additionally, GWC was honored as the Best of Huntington Beach, by the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce, for its reputation as a robust community partner for a second consecutive year. The prestige of Golden West Athletics matches the school’s academic reputation as one of the finest all-around programs in California with 89 State Championships.

As a multicultural and academic multinational institution, GWC is a qualifying Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American Native American and Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) serving over 18,000 students representing 36 countries.

GWC offers over 90 academic and career programs to help you reach your goals whether it’s to transfer to a four-year institution, earn a degree or certificate, enter the workforce, or enhance your skills to become more marketable in your current or future career. Current high school students can enroll in college courses while receiving both high school and college credit through our Dual Enrollment program. Our newly expanded Noncredit program now offers English Language Learner (ELL) courses, General Educational Development (GED) certificate, and Citizenship Test Preparation courses for individuals seeking to enhance their basic or employable skills.

I encourage you to explore our website for complete information about the degrees and certificates we offer as well as our admissions process. Furthermore, I hope you will take a moment to familiarize yourself with the programs and resources we offer designed to help overcome financial and academic challenges such as our Golden Promise Program, scholarships, College Pass partnership with OCTA, free tutoring services, and Chromebook loan program. The entire GWC faculty, staff, and administrators are eager to meet you. Take a moment to make an appointment with one of our college counselors to discuss your interests and educational goals.

Additionally, please accept my invitation to join me during my scheduled open office hours. The schedule varies each month and is posted below. I look forward to meeting you!

We are truly honored you chose Golden West College.
