Campus Emergency Preparedness Training

The Golden West College Public Safety Department offers a variety of safety and preparedness training designed to support a safe, informed, and resilient campus community. Emergency Preparedness Trainings are available by request to any student or employee group, club, or department on campus. Training can be customized by time or content to fit the needs of the audience, and can include any combination of the following:

Active Threat Response Introduces response options during an active threat situation, including concepts from Run, Hide, Fight, with an emphasis on awareness and decision-making.
Bicycle and Vehicle Theft Prevention Shares practical strategies to reduce theft, proper locking techniques, safe parking practices, and how to report suspicious activity.
Building Marshal Training Prepares designated staff to assist during emergencies through evacuation coordination, communication, and building-specific procedures.
Campus Evacuation Procedures Reviews evacuation routes, assembly areas, and individual roles to support safe and coordinated evacuations during emergencies.
Campus Security Authority Reviews roles and responsibilities for Campus Security Authorities (CSA’s)
Clery – A Guide to the Jeanne Clery Act Provides an overview of the Jeanne Clery Act to ensure campus-wide compliance
De-Escalation and Conflict Resolution Teaches basic techniques to recognize escalating behavior, communicate effectively, and safely manage tense or difficult situations.
Earthquake Preparedness Covers California-specific earthquake risks, including campus preparedness steps, actions to take during shaking, and post-earthquake response.
First Amendment on Campus Explains free speech rights and responsibilities, including time, place, and manner considerations in a campus setting.
Guide to Handling Medical Concerns on Campus Covers recognizing medical emergencies, requesting assistance, basic response expectations, and available campus resources
Hazing Prevention Provides an overview of hazing prevention, reporting responsibilities, and ways to promote a respectful and inclusive campus environment.
Online Safety and Security Addresses shared computer usage, social media safety, doxxing, sextortion, and best practices for safeguarding personal and institutional information.
Stay Safe at GWC Provides an overview of campus safety resources, Public Safety services, and everyday safety tips for the Golden West College community.
Student Worker Safety Tips Focuses on workplace safety, situational awareness, and response expectations for student employees.
What to Do in an Emergency Outlines how to recognize emergencies, when to call 911, how to contact Public Safety, and what actions to take.

*Trainings typically run between 30 – 90 minutes depending on the content.

To request training, complete the form below. Please submit requests at least two weeks in advance. All training courses are facilitated by GWC Public Safety. If an emergency occurs, any scheduled trainings may be cancelled at the last minute.
