Resume Building Tips (may vary per situation):

  • Keep a Master Resume.
  • Create a new resume for each job you wish to apply for and align your resume to the job post.
  • Build a clean, concise yet detailed framework.
  • Keep your resume at 1 page if you have 5 or less years of experience, or 2 pages if you have more than 5 years of experience in the industry of your choice.
  • Highlight accomplishments, not just duties.
  • Focus on relevant skills and experiences.
  • Optimize your text with action verbs and metrics.

Cover Letter Tips

  • Utilize the same template used for your Resume (Your resume and cover letter should be matching documents).
  • Identify Cover Letter Style (Traditional or T shape).
  • Directly address hiring manager, if known.
  • Emphasize your core value and how you meet the qualifications.
  • Differentiate yourself from the crowd.
  • Go beyond what’s on your resume, don’t copy and paste.
  • Create an easy read document and finish strong.

On Campus Resources: THE RACK

GWC’s professional closet, The Rack, provides clothing for currently enrolled students who may have an interview, a semi-formal event, or other need for business-appropriate attire. Students are eligible to receive one full outfit per semester.

The Rack also offers free hygiene products. Students can select up to two items per visit. These items include but are not limited to: toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, and feminine hygiene products.

The Rack is located in Forum II, Room 103 or for additional information call (714) 892-7711 ext. 51277.
