Collection of Kindness

Collection of Kindness

The Collection of Kindness is tradition of giving sponsored by the Associated Students of Golden West College. The concept is simple if each person performs one simple act of kindness each month and these efforts are coordinated to serve a larger purpose, our campus can have an incredible impact as a whole.

Each month during the academic year, Campus Life collects donation items as listed below. As an incentive for student clubs & organizations to participate, ICC offers stipends each month for 1st Place ($60), 2nd Place ($40), and 3rd ($20) Place.

Donations may be dropped off anytime to the Campus Life front desk during our operating hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM excluding days the campus is closed).  Questions? Contact Dennis Nañez, Interim Student Life & Leadership Specialist and Inter-Club Council advisor (dnanez@gwc.cccd.edu, 714-892-7711, x. 55198)

Acts of Kindness

From March 2020 through February 2022, the Golden West College campus was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant that club members were unable to drop off Collection of Kindness items to Campus Life.  During this time, we heard from ICC and our student clubs and organizations that the desire to give back to others during this extraordinary public health crisis was stronger than ever.  ICC created the Virtual Acts of Kindness program to meet this need.  While our campus is now once again fully operational, we recognize that many of our students may primarily be taking online classes, or that some students may be more able to volunteer their time or services as opposed to physical items.   As such, the Acts of Kindness program continues as another way for club members to positively impact their community.

Each time you perform an Act of Kindness, club members are invited to submit that act to our Acts of Kindness log.  At the end of each month, stipends will be awarded from the ICC Account to Individual Club Accounts in our traditional amounts for 1st place ($60.00), 2nd place ($40.00), and 3rd place ($20.00).

Examples of Acts of Kindness include:

  • Volunteering at a local food bank
  • Performing a wellness check-in for an elderly or home-bound neighbor, or a friend
  • Blood donation
  • Delivering meals, groceries, medication, or other essential supplies to an elderly or home-bound individual
  • Registering with the California Volunteers program
  • Giving "kudos" or a shout-out on the GWC App.  (This can be for a faculty/staff member, fellow student, a department, organization, etc.  Make sure to use #ICCActsofKindness to tag your post!)
  • Registering with Be the Match
  • Any other Act of Kindness or volunteer opportunity that you've participated in
