Department Mission Statement

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS), CARE (single parents), and NextUp/Guardian Scholars (students with foster care experience) Programs at Golden West College are dedicated to the delivery of comprehensive programs that encourage the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students who are challenged by language, social, economic, and/or educational barriers.

EOPS/CARE/NextUp/Guardian Scholars programs are designed to enhance students' success in meeting their educational goals and objectives. As a comprehensive program, EOPS is driven by a philosophy of providing services that are “over and above and in addition to the services available to all students. EOPS strives for innovative and creative ways to enhance and encourage students’ academic success and excellence while fostering the student’s personal growth and development.

What is EOPS?

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program serving students who face economic, language, social, and/or educational barriers. EOPS assists students to attain their educational and career goals as they prepare to enter an increasingly technological and multicultural society. Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE)

The CARE program is a state-funded program designed to assist single parents who are recipients of CalWORKs/TANF and are EOPS eligible. CARE students are given guidance and support to achieve their educational and personal goals. The CARE staff understands how a single parent who is supporting a family may feel overwhelmed trying to balance the responsibilities of education and home. We are here to help qualified students balance those responsibilities by offering additional financial assistance and support services. Learn more about CARE
