Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency for admission to GWC by submitting any one of the accepted tests and alternative listed below. You may also download a list here: accepted tests and alternatives.

Accepted English Proficiency Tests

Applicants must submit official exam results not more than 2 years old at the time of application.

Accepted Language School Levels

Successful completion of the indicated class level at one of our partner schools below is an accepted form of English demonstration.

Other

English proficiency may also be demonstrated by successful completion of prior post‐secondary coursework in English/ESL in the U.S. or other countries where primary language of instruction is in English. German Abitur may also be accepted. Official post‐secondary transcripts are required and is subject to review.

Applicants in the U.S. who are unable to demonstrate English proficiency in any other way may also request to take the Golden West College Placement Test. You must first submit the application form and pay the $55 application fee before you can schedule to take a test.

Foreign Transcripts

Submit a copy of your transcripts from high school or the highest level of education attained in your home country. All transcripts must be translated into English.

U.S. Transcripts (high school, college, university, language schools)

If you have attended any institutions in the U.S. (i.e. high school, college, university, language schools), you must submit transcripts from all institutions attended.

For admission purposes, you may submit unofficial transcripts.

Proof of sufficient funds for tuition, fees, and living expenses for one year are required for issuance of the Form I-20. For detailed information about tuition and fees, visit the Cost of Study page.

Required Amount

Applicants must submit document(s) under the sponsor’s name with a minimum balance of $26,979 USD dated within the last five months.

Applicants for the Cosmetology program must submit proof of funding showing a minimum balance of $34,375 USD.

Accepted Financial Documents

You may submit any one of the following documents as proof of sufficient funds. All financial documents must be issued within the last five months:

• Official bank statement from a checking or savings account. All funds must be liquid assets.
• Multiple bank statements from more than one sponsor are accepted, as long as the total amount equals our minimum amount. Each sponsor must sign the Affidavit of support form.
• Bank letter signed by the financial institution showing an exact amount in U.S. dollars of available funds, not estimated.
• We do not accept Investment Account as proof of funding. All funds must be liquid.

Students with Dependent Spouse or Children

• Students who plan bring dependent spouses or children to the U.S. as F-2 visa holders need to show proof of additional $3,000 per dependent in order for us to issue dependent I-20s.
  
  

Students Applying for the Cosmetology Program

• Applicants for the Cosmetology program must submit proof of funding showing a minimum balance of $34,375 USD.

Affidavit of support form

• The Affidavit of support form must be signed by your sponsor (the bank account holder)
• Multiple Sponsors: if you have multiple sponsors, each sponsor must sign the affidavit of support form
• Self-Sponsoring: if you will be sponsoring yourself, please complete the form and check the "personal savings" section

All applicants are required to pay the $55 Non-Refundable Application Fee. 

You will pay the application fee online by credit or debit card at the time you submit your online application. If you wish to pay in-person by cash, please contact us: isp@gwc.cccd.edu.

Submit a scanned copy of the biographical page of your passport.

If you have any dependent spouse or children, submit a copy of passport for each dependent(s).

If you are an international student already in the U.S. on F-1 student visa, please also submit the following documents:

• Copy of your visa
• Copy of current I-20
• Copy of most recent I-94

If you have earned a degree from another U.S. Institution, please submit 1 page personal statement explaining why you are applying and what your future goals are.

Students who will be under the age of 18 at the start of the semester must submit additional documents:

• Proof of high school completion
• Parental consent and temporary guardianship form

If you are interested in applying for any of our certificate programs, please note that you may be required to take additional general education courses that is not part of the certificate requirements.

This is required in order for students to maintain the full-time enrollment (12 units) required by the SEVP regulations for F-1 international students.
