Mission Statement

The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) addresses the unique needs of our GWC military connected student population. The VRC does this by collaborating with various campus and community resources. Through this collaboration, the VRC serves as a valuable point of contact for its military connected students. 

VRC Perks

The VRC features perks that give our student veterans the chance to find comradery, allies, and academic support:

Tutoring – The VRC offers free Math and English tutoring available online. For one-on-one tutoring appointments, please send an email to one of the following tutors:

Chromebook Loan Program – Need a laptop to help complete your academic goals? We have laptops available for our student veterans to check out. To participate in this program:

You must fill out the Chromebook Loan Program Request Form. You must be able to pick up the Chromebook in person on a Tuesday outside of GWCs new Math & Science building between 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. You must wear a face mask when on campus.

Food Distribution Program – In need of food resources? The Stand (GWC's Food Pantry) is offering a FREE drive-thru food distribution in collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank each Tuesday at 11:00 am. Please click this link to learn more & sign-up: Food Box Request Form Link

School Supplies – In the lounge area, you will find a cabinet filled with school supplies for our student veterans to take and use as they need. Stop by and grab a binder, notebook, pens and pencils, etc.

Scholarships – Golden West College and our community partners offer a variety of scholarship available to our student veterans. If interested, please speak with the VRC Specialist and keep an eye on your student email account.

Fun Events – The VRC and the Student Veterans of America Association (SVAA) host several fun events each semester, allowing our student veterans to enjoy themselves and create friendships. For instance, we have various celebratory ceremonies, SVAA outings, holiday celebrations, etc.

The VRC provides veteran-specific counseling to address different questions and concerns. The following counselors are located in the VRC:

Veteran-Specific Academic Counseling:

A student education plan is required by the Veterans Affairs (VA), we strongly recommend that you check in with the veteran-specific academic counselor at least once a semester to make sure everything is going according to your academic goals.
