Building Caregiving Skills: Communication and Support for Dementia Caregivers

Join the Alzheimer’s Association for a caregiver skill-building workshop designed for those caring for someone living with dementia. Participants will explore the evolving role of a caregiver, learn strategies for managing caregiver stress, and discover how to build a strong support team. The workshop will also focus on how dementia affects communication, offering practical tips for communicating effectively with family members, friends, and health care professionals. This session aims to help caregivers feel more confident, supported, and prepared to navigate the challenges of dementia caregiving.

Note: This session does not qualify for part-time faculty compensation.

This training is designed for experienced employees who have worked at the college for a few years or more years and want to strengthen their understanding of how our institution operates. This interactive session reconnects participants with the mission, vision, and values that guide our work while providing a deeper look at the structures, processes, and people that shape decision-making at both the college and District level. The training will also include an overview of essential student support programs available on campus.

Self-Defense Training: Level 2

Location: RCJRC 146 (First floor of the Criminal Justice Training Center)

This session builds on practical self-defense strategies for everyday situations and includes a brief review of key safety concepts and situational awareness. The majority of the training will focus on hands-on practice, allowing participants to further develop basic defensive moves and techniques through guided drills and exercises. This session is ideal for individuals looking to strengthen their self-defense skills. Attendance in Level 1 is not required.

CPR, AED, and First AID Training

Join us for CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training, where you’ll learn essential life-saving skills to help someone whose heart has stopped or who is no longer breathing. This critical training can significantly improve survival chances during emergencies. Participants will gain hands-on experience in key CPR techniques, including checking for responsiveness, calling for help, performing chest compressions, and providing rescue breaths. The workshop includes practice with both adult and child mannequins, as well as training on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).  

Notes: Not paid for part-time faculty. Certificates will not be issued for this session.
