NCMPR District 6 GWC awards for 2025

Huntington Beach, Calif. — Golden West College’s Marketing and Public Relations team earned four Medallion Awards at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 6 annual conference and awards ceremony, held Oct. 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Medallion Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in marketing, communications, and public relations at community and technical colleges across the U.S. GWC competes in District 6, which includes institutions from Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, and Guam.

This year, GWC brought home two Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze Medallion, earning recognition in the following categories:

  • Excellence in Writing (Short Form) – Gold
  • Flyer – Gold
  • Brochure – Silver
  • Original Photography (Unmanipulated) – Bronze

The winning projects included a student spotlight story, a promotional brochure for GWC’s International Student Program, and a series of handcards highlighting the College’s instructional programs.

“These awards are a reflection of the incredible creativity, collaboration and heart our team pours into telling GWC’s story,” said Andrea Rangno, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “Every project represents the work of people who truly believe in the power of education, and in our mission to elevate students to their highest potential.”

Danielle Mar named 2025 District 6 "Rising Star"

In addition to the department’s success, GWC Digital Outreach Specialist Danielle Mar was named the 2025 District 6 “Rising Star.” Presented annually, this award honors an emerging professional who demonstrates innovation, leadership, and exceptional promise in the field of marketing and public relations. Mar will advance for consideration for the national Rising Star award at NCMPR’s national conference in Washington, D.C. next spring.

In her acceptance speech Mar — who served as ASGWC president before graduating and transferring to the University of Southern California in 2021 — credited the College with preparing her for her professional career. “As a student at Golden West I learned confidence, I learned what I was capable of, and more than that, I found my home,” she said.
